Azania Mean's Freedom Project

Project Description: Obsidian Pause – Wearable Paper Art

Obsidian Pause Wearable Paper Art is an evolving collection of wearable paper art that explores identity,
transformation, and community expression through contemporary adornment. This phase of the project
focused on the creation and exhibition of a new series of wearable art earrings, an accompanying
photography installation, and a hands-on community workshop.
The work was shared with the public through an exhibition that highlighted the unique intersection of art,
fashion, and storytelling. I engaged with Minnesotans across various communities, culminating in a
community workshop hosted at the Duluth Public Library. During the workshop, participants created their
own wearable art pieces using paper and mixed media, guided by my creative process. They also
participated in a guided tour of the exhibition, deepening their connection to the themes and artistic
techniques presented.

This grant-supported project allowed me to expand the Obsidian Pause collection and further explore
wearable art as a tool for engagement, healing, and cultural dialogue.
